Papercraft Star # 56

This week's challenge over at Papercraft Star is to make a project using this photo . . .

as your inspiration.  Love the vibrant yellow and orange played off of the black and white print . . . very pretty!  And here is my card based on the challenge . . .

Supplies:

Little Red Wagon #92, Daring Cardmakers, and Cardabilities #36

Some times, things just all come together the way you want them to, and when you are finished, you have THAT feeling!  You know the one, the one where your heart skips a beat when you look at the finished product, and you know it's just exactly how you had pictured in your mind . . . or maybe even a little better!  That's the feeling I got when I finished this card today . . . just a bit of joy bubbling up from inside.  Don't you love it!!!

Other Info:

• Digital papers.  Well, what can I say other than I barely know what I'm doing, but I have a small collection now . . . a few I bought and others I got free.  I download the file, open it up, edit the image in Picasa, print in the size I want (the gingham paper I cut at 8x10") onto 110 lb. white cardstock.  Then I use it!  I just don't think of it often enough, but when I saw this pink gingham, I had a feeling it would match the thread in the image, and it did work wonderfully.  Don't be afraid to try . . . go for it!!

Bee Happy . . . Card Patterns # 126

I was afraid I wouldn't get this one done.  Not because it was hard, and not because I didn't have the time, but because I've done one so very similar to the sketch a while back, that I didn't want it to come out looking just like the other one!  And, it really did come out looking like the other one, but ya know?  That's okay!  The challenge is to make a card based on the Card Patterns #126 sketch, and here is a picture of the sketch . . .

And here is the card I made based on the sketch . . .

I really love how well the blue ink matched the Lily Bee Design paper!  The colors are so bright and cheery and happy, that when I found that sentiment, I knew it was the right one for this card!

Tag Challenge - A Face

This week, Rebecca over at the Blog Challenge Garden chose the theme of 'a face' for her Tag Tuesday challenge.  Immediately when I saw her challenge I thought of this image that I found over at The Graphic Fairy.  I cropped it a bit, and it worked perfectly . . .

Can't you just see this woman, sitting on a buckboard wagon, driving the horses, exhausted, burning hot, but knowing that what she wants or needs doesn't matter.  Getting the job done is all that matters right now!  And yes, I grew up watching old westerns, how ever did you guess???  Here are the details . . .

The Challenges ~ Alphabet Challenge Blog and The Kraft Journal Challenge

Happy Monday, and Happy August!!!  Of course, on Mondays one of the first things I do is look to see what new challenges are up, and two of my very favorites, The Kraft Journal's 'Make It Monday' challenge and the Alphabet Challenge Blog's challenge for this week were both there waiting for me and with this project I was able to do both in one card!

Cricut Cuts:

• Card base - Walk In My Garden cartridge, 'card2' set at 5"
• Label - Elegant Edges cartridge, patterned paper - 'Heart2-s' set at 4 1/4"; green mat - 'Heart2-s' set at 4 1/2"
• Green oval (sentiment) - Plantin Schoolbook cartridge, 'oval' set at 2"

To show dimension of flower

Flower Instructions:

• For brad:  Ink brad heavily with brown ink at least twice, setting with heat tool in between coats.  Ink heavily with gold metallic ink, dip into Queen's Gold embossing powder, and melt/set with heat tool.  Ink lightly with either brown, or green/gold ink, heat set again.
• Cut circles from patterned paper using smallest and 2nd from smallest dies.
• Cut glassine circles using three smallest dies, making two of each size.
• Scrunch up all the paper, then cut a small hole or slit in center of each.
• Put brad through all pieces, starting from smallest pieces:  small glassine circle, sm. patterned circle, sm. glassine circle, two medium sized glassine circles, large glassine circle, large patterned circle, and last large glassine circle.
• Close brad, and glue onto card.

And there you have it!  I love how the glassine circles softened the colors of the patterned paper, and gave the flower a lighter feel.  The image came from Flickr, and I got several in the same series.  They were pages from a book, and I cropped the image to cut away the edges.  I believe the picture really does look like you are walking in a garden!
