CPS # 207 . . . What's Buzzin? . . .

I finally got my work table cleaned off and could find most everything, so it was time to get crafty!  I haven't done many challenges lately outside of my DT duties at Unscripted Sketches, so I wanted to do a challenge.  I scanned through my favorite challenge sites and chose this sketch from CPS, or Card Positioning Systems. . .

And here is my take on the sketch . . .

Product Info:

• Base card stock is from The Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby) Textured Cardstock Stack - Darks
• Patterned paper is from Cosmo Cricket 'Double Deck' Material Girl and Garden Variety collections - Garden Variety
• Cardstock for bees is mostly DCWV, but are all small bits from my stash
• Stickles 'diamond' and 'golden rod'
• Ric-rack from my stash

Tips, Tools and Techniques:

Cricut Expression:

• Base of card was cut using "Preserves" cartridge, Papaya-s using card feature set at 4 inches
• Bees were cut using Walk in My Garden cartridge, bee1, and bee1-s set at 2 inches.  I cut the base from white for the white wings, and cut the body and stripes twice, once from black for the head, tail and antennae, and once for the yellow stripes.

Other:

• Printed the sentiment on my ink jet printer, trimmed to size and matted with green cardstock
• Bees and sentiment are popped up with foam dots for depth

And that's my card; very springy, don't you think? 

As I sit here at my computer typing this, I am watching the many birds visiting the feeders on my deck.  I have one large regular birdseed feeder, two thistle feeders and two suet cakes.  There are many pine siskins and goldfinches, titmice, chickadees, cardinals, towhees, several different varieties of sparrows, and many more species that come visit my feeders.  They bring me such joy, and brighten my days.  They are "Little Gifts" each day!  So tell me, what are your little gifts today???

Scrapbook Trends Challenge and CPS #185 Sketch Challenge

Here in the northern part of Georgia (yes, I know - and most everywhere else, too) we have had a very hot and dry summer.  And everyone I talk to seems to confirm the one overwhelming theme that is going around these days . . . "I am SO ready for fall"!  The fall season actually started a couple of days ago, but you would never know it by the 90+ temps that won't go away!  Anyway, I am among that group - I am so ready for cooler temps and maybe a little more rain.   And it seems that I started on halloween, Thanksgiving and fall cards earlier than ever this year - probably because I'm so ready for those crisp fall days and colorful leaves, pumpkins and such! With that being said, let me share with you my latest card!

The theme over at CREATE, the Scrapbook Trends card blog was to make a card showcasing leaves.  And then I found this week's sketch over at CPS (Card Positioning Systems) and knew I could work those two together for one card.  Here is the CPS sketch . . .

Product Info:

• Base card stock is Bazzill, matting for image are just bits from my scrap drawer
• Patterned paper is from Jillibean Soup, Pasta Fagioli line - the striped is 'romano cheese', and the flowered is 'clove fresh garlic'
• The image is from clip art software
• The felt leaves were part of a Blog Candy package I won about 2 years ago.  They were loose in the package, so I have no idea who made them.  They had adhesive on the back already.
• Stickles 'platinum' on some of the leaves

Tips, Tools and Techniques:

• Base of card was cut on Cricut Expression using Walk in My Garden cartridge, card2 set at 5"
• Striped paper was cut on Cricut Expression using Walk in My Garden cartridge, card1 set at 5"
• Flowered paper's scalloped edges were cut using Carl PRT-100 rotary cutter with scallop blade.

CPS # 148 Sketch Challenge

Once again it's time for CPS's weekly sketch challenge.  I loved this sketch because it was so simple it was a challenge for me!  And I know that probably doesn't make sense, but I'm normally a frilly, fussy, 'more is more' cardmaker, and this sketch really made me work for it!  That said, I am really pleased with the outcome.  Here is the sketch . . .

And here is my take on the sketch; as you noticed, I did a more veretical card as opposed to a horizontal one . . .

{A side note:  You can't really tell it in the picture, but the texture and color of the embossing are almost identical to the color and texture of the ribbon - a really cool look!}

CPS Year In Review Challenge

Happy New Year Everyone! I spent New Years Eve and New Years Day ‘hopefully’ setting a trend for how I spend the rest of this year. Getting organized, and playing with paper! I’ll share a few of my organizing efforts with you later, but first I want to share two cards with you that I made for the CPS Year In Review card challenge.


The challenge this week was to use any of the previous sketches from weeks 1 through 147!  That is a lot of sketches to choose from, and I had a hard time choosing . . . so I chose two!  Up first is sketch #34 . . .

The second sketch I used was 45, and I truly loved this card!  The tulip tag and my aunt were my inspirations for this card, and I'll be sending the card to my aunt soon.  As soon as the Christmas holidays are over, she's talking spring, and in her mind, spring starts Feb. 1, no matter where she is!  I love her outlook on spring!  Here is the sketch . . .

Sentiment was typed on a clipart software and printed onto white cardstock on my printer.  The circle was cut using Spellbinders Nestabilities Classic Circle Small.  Green 'shadow' circle was cut on Cricut using Plantin SchoolBook cartridge, circle at 2 1/4 inches.

Letters 's p r i n g' were cut on Cricut Plantin Schoolbook cartridge.

CPS # 144 Sketch

I don't know why, but I had a hard time with this sketch, you know - just getting the layout right in my head! But once I did, it just flew together, and I know just who I'm going to send this card to for Christmas!

CPS # 143 - Merry and Bright

This is the first card I've done for a CPS sketch in almost a year, and it felt really good to get back into the groove and work on something from a sketch.
