Thanks for visiting!

Welcome! This is the place where I share my artsy and crafty projects. I am an evolving artist these days ... finding myself enjoying less of the cards and mini albums that I have made for years, and turning to art journaling and more artistic endeavors. I have always enjoyed some craft or other, and some of my earliest memories of my mother helping me make paper dolls and other crafts. I am now in my 60's and finding myself more passionately enjoying creating beautiful things and learning new skills and techniques and products.

While you are here I hope you will find inspiration and ideas for making your own projects, however any images or projects you find here are my personal property and should not be used for your own monetary gain, or for contests or challenges. Thank You!

The Kraft Journal 'Memorial Day' Challenge

Back again!  This time for another challenge for yet another new (to me) challenge blog!  This one is for The Kraft Journal, the blog for The Kraft Outlet, a company that specializes in specialty papers, including kraft cardstock and other kraft items.  Here is my project based on their challenge . . .

And here are all of the details . . .

The Blueprint:  Create a card with the theme of 'Memorial Day' using kraft cardstock.

The Supply List:

  • Kraft cardstock is from The Paper Studio
  • Star patterned paper is an old line called Papa from Fancy Pants Designs, the paper is 'Brave'
  • Music paper is from The Paper Studio.  I wet it, crumpled it, dried it in the microwave, burned the edges and then inked the creases to give it a look of age
  • Paper Doily is by Wilton and from Hobby Lobby
  • Red rosette paper is from K & Company's 'cut n paste' stack
  • Brown ink pad from Stampabilities
  • Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist 'iridescent gold'
  • Image was found on Flickr and printed using Picasa software and my ink jet printer
  • Lace and ribbon are from my stash.  Months ago I coffee stained them to use in another project and never finished it, so these were perfect for this project!
  • Vintage button is from my stash

The Tools:

  • Cricut Expression and A Child's Year cartridge to cut card base
  • Scissors, craft knife and ruler
  • Carl PRT-100 rotary cutter with the 'squiggles' blade
  • sewing machine to gather lace

Tips and Techniques:
  • For the doily, I inked it with brown ink, sprayed it with glimmer mist and then rolled up some of the edges on a pencil to give it a distressed look.
  • For the lace flower, I stitched a basting stitch along one edge and then pulled it to gather it, curved it into a circle and glued it into the round shape.

The image reads "Nor shall their story be forgot while Fame her record keeps.  I think it's beautiful, because I hope their stories are not forgotten!  I also made a very simple coordinating tag to go along with the card . . .

To make it, I inked the edges of a #5 manila tag (2 3/8" x 4 3/4") with brown ink, cut the boy with flags and flowers from the image and glued it to the tag, and added the sticker sentiment from SRM Stickers to the bottom.  A bit of red white and blue ribbon finishes it off.

I hope you've enjoyed this card!  I really appreciate you stopping by today, and would love to hear from you.  Thanks for visiting, Becky
