Unscripted Sketches Challenge # 75 - World Card Making Day!!!

Happy World Card Making Day!!!  Doesn't it sound cool just saying that???  I'm hoping you've found a forum or group or LSS or SOMETHING where you can spend the day making cards on this special occasion!  Two years ago I hosted a day of challenges on Scrapbook.com but last year on WCMD I had just lost my Dad and was sick as a dog with the flu, and didn't even give it a thought!  So it's really good to be back in the swing of things and participating once again. 

The Unscripted Sketches Design Team is proud to be a part of this day, but have not scheduled any special challenges (aside from our usual sketch) because we have bigger things planned two weeks from today for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Please join us every week, but especially that week for some fun surprises!

Product Info:

• Base card stock is Die Cuts With a View.  The red card stock is from my stash, and I don't remember the brand.
• Patterned papers are both sides of Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses 'peppermint twist'
• Image is from a clip art software
• Chipboard tag is from Basic Grey 'chipboard hardware'
• Silk ribbon is from an online store that is no longer in business
• Image was printed using a stamp from Walmart, Versamark Ink, and Ranger green embossing powder.

Tips, Tools and Techniques:

• Card base was cut using Cricut Expression, Walk in My Garden cartridge, card2 set at 5"
• Patterned paper base was cut using Cricut Expression, Walk in My Garden cartridge, card1 set at 4 3/4"
• Edges of papers, image and tag were inked using brown ink.

This is the first Christmas card I've made so far this year, and I'm just beginning to get wound up and ready to make lots more.  Have you started making your Christmas cards yet???  Blessings, Becky

EBTKS and Cute Card Thursday Card Challenges

Why is it that the simplest sketches are sometimes the hardest ones from which to make a card?  That was the case with this sketch from Everything But The Kitchen Sink's Challenge #23 . . .

It's a very simple sketch, but it sort of threw me for a loop.  Then I found the Cute Card Thursday challenge # 130 to make a card with a bird or a butterfly, and I knew what belonged where that straight line is!  Oh, and I turned the card 1/4 turn clockwise as well.  Here is my take on the sketch and the challenge from CCT . . .

  Butterflies cut using Serenade cartridge, Butterfly3 set at 1 3/4" and 2"
• 
  
  Butterfly antennae are made from quilters pins that I inked with red ink, dipped in Ranger 'Queen's Gold' embossing powder and then heat set with a heat gun, then inked again with red ink, dipped in Ranger 'Enchanted Gold' embossing powder and heat set with a heat gun.  Then I added three coordinating seed beads to each pin, gluing with FabriTac glue.  The two butterflies are separated with a scrap from a sheet of foam dots, and the pins are pushed down into the foam.

This is a very simple but elegant card that could be used for many occasions.  Birthday, sympathy, encouragement, thank you, or just about any occasion you could imagine.  When I am doing shows, it seems people like this kind of card just to keep on hand, and I like making them, too!  The pretty fall colors are very appropriate for this time of year also.

Hello Sweet Friend! Mojo Monday Sketch 126

It's been a busy week, so I haven't had much time for making cards.  I did, however, get this one made for the Mojo Monday sketch challenge.  Here is the sketch . . .

• Pink polkadot paper is Daisy Bucket Designs 'Perfect Harmony - Delaney'
• Striped paper is Fancy Pants 'Splendid - Lovey Dovey'
• Cupcake image is from PC Crafter.  To get the 'glossy' look, I inked it with VersaMark ink and heat embossed it using Ranger clear embossing powder (2 coats).
• Scalloped circle cut using Spellbinders Nestabilities Scalloped Circles Small

Cardvaarks Challenge - A Challenge In a Million!

So, who of you cardmakers out there wouldn't love to be published in one of the premier cardmaking magazines???  I have two dreams.  One is to be published, the other to be on a design team.  Now, I've been a guest DT member for Making Handmade Cards, and I loved it, but I want to be a full fledged DT member of a challenge blog or a product manufacturer.  I know, dream BIG, right!

And the current challenge for Cardvaarks could possibly help make one of those dreams come true!  The challenge is to make a wedding card.  The prize?  The winner's card will be published in the July, 2010 issue of CARDS Magazine!!!

Yep, THAT magazine! And of course I had to go for it - how often does such a wonderful opportunity come along?  So, here is my wedding card for this challenge . . .

I wanted a vintagey look, and my jumping off point was the lace.  That is one piece of vintage lace that was in with some fabric my mother gave me.  I would guess the age is somewhere between the late 1950's to late 1960's.  It is aged and even stained a bit, but I think that adds to the vintage charm.  The lace is a little over 2 1/4 inch from tip to tip of the hearts.  Here's all the info . . .

• Base cardstock, and tan cardstock for scrolls are from my stash and they didn't have labels on the pieces.
• Patterned paper is K & Company Blue Awning Ivory Medallion Swirls Flat Paper.  I inked the edges with some brown pigment ink.
• Vintage lace from my stash
• Flowers are all Prima
• Pearls are all from Prima 'e.' line Pearls and Crystals
• Ribbon is from Michaels 'Celebrate It' line
• Stamps used for 'congratulations' and 'swirl' are from Inkadinkado's Brenda Walton's Chelsea Sentiments clear stamp set
• Ink used for sentiments is Tim Holtz Distress Ink 'Frayed Burlap' from Ranger

• Base card cut on Walk in My Garden cartridge, card 2 set at 5"
• Patterned paper cut on Walk in My Garden cartridge, card 1 set at 4 3/4"
• Scrolls under flowers cut on Serenade Solutions cartridge using Scroll 1 and Scroll 3

And that is my card.  I hope you like it, and I hope that whoever picks the card for this challenge likes it as well.  I can honestly say I put more thought and care in making this card than any I can remember - it means that much to me!

I just love it when I can get two challenges in on one card!  This is one of those times, and I really like the card - it would be great for a teacher, a child, a friend, just about anyone!  The challenges were . . .

• Stars cut using Plantin SchoolBook cartridge set on 3, 3 1/4 and 3 1/2" sizes.  I glued the large one to the card, popped up the center star with foam squares, and scored the points ot the top star to give it an Amish Barn Star look and glued it onto the top, glue on edges only.
• Tag cut on Plantin SchoolBook cartridge, tag 1 set at 2 1/4".

Cardvaarks Sketch Challenge

Cardvaarks challenge for this week was to make a card based on a sketch.  I found this sketch unusually hard to turn into a card, and I think that was because I was trying to do it on a more grand scale.  I'm working on a set of gift cards for a friend, and when I scaled the size down to a 4" square card, it just came into focus and I really like the end product.  Here is the sketch . . .

• Sentiment is Bazzill

Patterned Paper is from My Minds Eye "Mademoiselle" line:

• Stripe is "Mother"
• Floral is "Mother Floral"

Stamped with brown ink, then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  I didn't like the end result, so I inked the whole little rectangle with versamark and coated the whole thing with Ranger clear embossing powder and heat embossed it.  I like the end result much better!

After all the fuss over the larger sketch, the final card ended up much prettier than I had expected.  I think I'll make a couple more from this paper, just using different sentiments and with the addition of a couple of lavender sachets will make a pretty gift.  Blessings friends!  Becky

CPS # 148 Sketch Challenge

Once again it's time for CPS's weekly sketch challenge.  I loved this sketch because it was so simple it was a challenge for me!  And I know that probably doesn't make sense, but I'm normally a frilly, fussy, 'more is more' cardmaker, and this sketch really made me work for it!  That said, I am really pleased with the outcome.  Here is the sketch . . .

And here is my take on the sketch; as you noticed, I did a more veretical card as opposed to a horizontal one . . .

{A side note:  You can't really tell it in the picture, but the texture and color of the embossing are almost identical to the color and texture of the ribbon - a really cool look!}
