Thanks for visiting!

Welcome! This is the place where I share my artsy and crafty projects. I am an evolving artist these days ... finding myself enjoying less of the cards and mini albums that I have made for years, and turning to art journaling and more artistic endeavors. I have always enjoyed some craft or other, and some of my earliest memories of my mother helping me make paper dolls and other crafts. I am now in my 60's and finding myself more passionately enjoying creating beautiful things and learning new skills and techniques and products.

While you are here I hope you will find inspiration and ideas for making your own projects, however any images or projects you find here are my personal property and should not be used for your own monetary gain, or for contests or challenges. Thank You!

Our Creative Corner ~ Red and Aqua Challenge

The challenge for this week over at Our Creative Corner is to create a project using the color scheme of red and aqua.  Now, how did they know that is my very favorite color scheme these days???  One day, when we have plenty of money (ha!) I want to decorate my kitchen in those colors, and build a crazy studio using those colors, too!  Here is what I came up with . . .

Supply List:

  • Base (kraft) cardstock - The Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby)
  • Patterned papers - (top) My Minds Eye (middle) KI Memories (bottom) The Girls Paperie
  • Aqua cardstock - scrap, probably DCWV
  • Doily - old, no identifying marks, purchased at an estate sale
  • Felt, perle cotton and vintage button - my stash
  • Sentiment - SRM Stickers

Tools Used:
  • Cricut Expression using Plantin Schoolbook and Walk In My Garden cartridges
  • Scissors, ruler, craft knife, rotary cutter
  • needle

Cricut Cuts:
  • Card base - cut using Walk In My Garden cartridge, 'card2' set at 5"
  • Patterned paper - (First I cut several strips of patterned paper then adhered it to a square of white cardstock, larger than what I wanted my finished product of 5")  cut using Walk In My Garden cartridge, 'card1' set at 5"
  • Circle for sentiment - cut using Plantin Schoolbook 'circle' set at 1 1/2"

The Heart:
  • I cut (freehand) two hearts from acrylic felt.  Next I stitched the two pieces together using perle cotton and an embroidery needle, using alternating straight stitches and French knots.  About 3-4 stitches short of the end, I stuffed it with a tiny bit of polyfill, and finished stitching it.  Then I sewed on the vintage button.

And I love this card!  Cute, sweet, and perfect for so many occasions!  Thanks so much for joining me today, and I hope to see you back again very soon.  Blessings, Becky

A Special Day! CPS # 229 Sketch

I really think that sometimes having a day off, a day away from home, from your craft supplies and away from the normal day to day 'stuff' can help your craftiness and inspiration refresh itself!  Yesterday (Saturday) my hubby and I left home shortly after 8:30 am, picked up a couple of friends, and made our way to Etowah, Tennessee where we were put onto a bus and shuttled a few miles down the road to Gee Creek where we boarded a train for the Hiawassee River Rail Adventure.  It was a lot of fun!  But it was a very long day!  We got home shortly before 10 pm, exhausted and ready for bed!  Anyway, I slept in this morning, then got up and came in here to my studio and looked at what new challenges were up, and there are quite a few!

But I chose to start with this one from Card Positioning Systems . . .

And here is my project based on the sketch . . .

As you can tell, I turned the sketch 1/4 turn to the right.  I also took a little different route today, and I really like how it came out!  I used a pink glassine lined treat bag as the front of the card.  It fits into a 5x7" envelope, and the verse is an insert in the bag.  I bought these envelopes from Pick Your Plum a few weeks ago when it was their deal of the day, but I did find some online that appear to be the same.  Here are the details . . .

Supplies:

  • Pink treat bag - Pick Your Plum (see note above)
  • Blue checked paper - The Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby)
  • Pink patterned paper - Making Memories
  • Dark blue cardstock - DCWV
  • Light blue cardstock - Bazzill
  • Image - Bumble Button
  • Lace, button, clear gem and flower - stash
  • Seam binding - Bluebird Lane Etsy shop
  • Stickles 'Diamond', 'Cotton Candy' and 'Waterfall'
  • Sentiment - SRM Stickers

Click on picture to see large size so you can see dimension on end of bag.

Tools:

  • Scissors, craft knife, rotary cutter, ruler
  • EK Success 'Arch Scallop' border punch
  • Computer and ink jet printer
  • Cricut Expression and Elegant Edges cartridge

Cricut Cuts:
  • Label behind sentiment cut using Elegant Edges cartridge, 'Bird1-s' using oblong feature set at 3"

And above is a view of the verse inserted into the bag.  I simply typed out the words (my words, please give credit where due if you choose to use them!) on my PC, printed them onto white cardstock, and matted it onto light blue cardstock and added a small embellishment at the top corner.

I hope you have enjoyed my project for today!  I had fun with it, and the treat bags are very easy to work with.  Thanks for visiting, and I hope to see you back again very soon!  Blessings, Becky

Unscripted Sketches #117 . . . Deck the Birdhouse

Merry Christmas in July!!!!  And that's the last time I'll be saying that until next July!  It's been a long month full of tips, techniques and inspiration from every single designer at Unscripted Sketches, and there are still the prizes to be given away.  But first, there's Sketch # 117 to share with you!  Here is this week's sketch . . .

And here is my card based on the sketch . . .

Do you notice anything different???  Yes, it's a stamped image, on one of my cards!  Well, actually it's a digital image, provided to the Unscriipted Designers for use in this challenge by our teammate Arielle who owns the Wax Fruit Company - a great digital stamp company that has some of the cutest, most adorable digital stamps around!

Now, you know - because I've told you repeatedly - that I am not a stamper.  Partly because the cost of stamps, markers, and all the other stuff just isn't in my budget!  Another reason is that there are so many other kinds of images to use that make just wonderful cards!  Scroll through my blog and you will see many projects made from images I either found on Flickr, purchased from vendors on Etsy, or found on clipart software - among other sources.

But the digital stamps, now, I'm really beginning to like these!  And do you know that I do not own a copic marker (or other brand) and I wouldn't know what to do with one if I did!  I printed this image and painted it using watercolor pencils.  You color inside the lines then, using a wet paint brush, do your shading and blending of the colors.  I am new to the watercolor pencils, too, but they are easy to learn.  And I think that gel pens, crayons, and many other types of tools could be used to color the image as well.  In fact, if you go to THIS POST Arielle has published a great tutorial on doing digital paper piecing using the digital images and digital papers.

Bottom line, don't be afraid to try, because you never know, you may just like the digital stamps!

Now, here are the details on my card . . .

Supply List:

  • Card base - Stampabilities (Hobby Lobby)
  • White and blue cardstock - Bazzill
  • Red cardstock - DCWV
  • Patterned paper - The Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby)
  • Image - Wax Fruit Company (Link above)
  • Colors - watercolor pencils by 'eeboo'
  • Stickles 'gold', 'xmas red' and 'frosted lace'
  • Ribbon - purchased at a yard sale - no identifying marks
  • Sentiment - SRM Stickers
  • Red star bead - stash

Tools:
  • Cuttlebug and embossing folders
  • computer and ink jet printer
  • scissors, ruler, craft knife, and rotary cutter

I really love this card, and  think I'll be trying more digital stamps in future.  Many thanks to Arielle for making the images available to us, her Unscripted teammates.  Thanks for visiting today, and please come back soon!  Blessings, Becky

Friday Night Confessions and The Messy Desk Challenge

Hello, my name is Becky and I am a messy crafter!

There, I said it!  My dirty little secret is out in the open for all to hear!  But is that really such a biggie?  I mean, normally I tend to work best in a smaller space, and a whole 6' long table seems so big, and empty, when it's clean!

But, there does always come the day when it's just TOO messy!  There have been times when I barely had a 1 foot square space to work, and that's just not enough.  Not to mention the fact you can't find anything.  But when I'm there, in the zone, creating and crafting and making pretty things . . . you know, in the moment, it's so hard to put things back right then!

I have even tried making myself clean up after each project, and it works . . . for a while, but then old habits kick in and before I know it everything is back in a mess once again.  And yes, messy workspace can and does lead to crafters block!

This morning, although I didn't have much time to 'play', I wanted to spend a few minutes creating, but it just didn't work.  I couldn't find things, nothing worked out right, so my few minutes creating turned into minutes of frustration.

Then this afternoon, after I got home from running some errands with my Mama, I wanted to create something to make up for the lost time this morning, so I came up with an idea . . . a Messy Desk Challenge!  Here are the rules:

  • Sit down at your crafting space (but it must be messy!) and make something with what is already out on your desk.  Pulling out a tool or two is fine, but materials such as paper, ribbon, buttons, flowers, etc. must be used from what is on your desk or workspace.
  • As you use an item from your desk, you MUST put what you don't use back where it belongs before continuing.
  • Once your project is finished, you absolutely HAVE to sit there for another 10 minutes and straighten and put away as much stuff as you can in that amount of time.  You don't have to stop at 10 minutes, that's just the minimum amount of time for the challenge.
  • Come back here and leave a comment and tell me about how the challenge worked for you!  And if you post about your project, the clean-up or the challenge, please leave me a link in the comment so I can go visit you!
And here is my project, made from things on my work table . . .

I did pull out the 1/4 inch hole punch to punch the holefor the lace, but everything else was right there on my table.  The embossed kraft card stock was even already embossed; I embossed it for another project that was landscaped (longways) and the embossing was portrait (up and down), so I couldn't use it.  The flower was even already glued together with the ribbon - a leftover from a project that didn't work out.  And this is a really sweet tag to send to a friend who needs a pick me up!

Oh, and what do you get out of this challenge???  A cleaner space, more organization, and hopefully somewhere in the mess you will find your crafting mojo, right where you left it, buried under all the stuff!

Okay, so now it's your turn!  Take the Messy Desk Challenge and let me know how it works for you!  Blessings, Becky

Blog Challenge Garden and Sugar Creek Hollow Challenges

I love projects that come together quick and easy!  The tag I made is for two challenges:

Here is my tag . . .

Now, I must say that this tag came together in considerably less than ten minutes if you don't count the time it took the Stickles to dry!  That is mostly because I picked out an image I had printed for another project and did not use, and the brown label that I had cut out earlier today for another project.  It was meant to be!  Also, I hadn't realized until I looked at the Sugar Creek Hollow site to make sure my tag fit, that I used the exact same image they have on their blog header!  Yes, this image had 4 bees, but I cut one off to make it fit the tag!

Supply List:
  • Tag base - #5 Manila tag
  • Patterned paper - My Minds Eye
  • Brown card stock - The Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby)
  • Image - I'm not really sure, I thought it was Graphics Fairy, but it wasn't in my folder for her images, so sorry!
  • Stickles 'platinum' - Ranger Inks
  • Twill ribbon - Upcycled from some packaging
  • Brown ink - Stampabilities (Hobby Lobby)

Tools:
  • Cuttlebug
  • Spellbinders Nestabilities 'Labels 4' largest die
  • Scissors, craft knife, ruler, rotary cutter and 1/4" hole punch

I love this tag, and I especially love that it just came together so easily.  Some projects are like that, others . . . well, we just won't talk about this time~!  Blessings everyone, Becky

Alphabet Challenge Blog 'L is for Lemon and Lime' Challenge

How many times have you tried and tried and tried to make a card be what your creative vision insists it should be, only to be disappointed?  Have you ever watched an interview with a sculptor and heard them say something like "you have to let the piece be what it holds inside"???  Well, since I've been making cards I have found that often times, no matter how hard I try to make a project be what I want it to be, sometimes it just has other ideas!!!

Such was the situation for my card for this week's challenge over at Alphabet Challenge Blog!  The challenge is 'L' for lemons and limes.  I tried and tried and tried to make it be more dimensional, frilly (or frou-frou), trendy, but all it really wanted to be was a cute, clean and simple thank you card!  So after almost 24 hours (not counting 6 or 7 for sleep) of wrestling with how I wanted the card to look and how it chose to look, I gave in, and here is what we came up with . . .

Supply List:

  • Card stock - DCWV
  • Patterned paper - The Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby)
  • Sentiment - SRM Stickers
  • Ribbon - purchased at a yard sale, no identifying marks!

Tools:
  • Cricut Expression with Walk In My Garden and Elegant Edges cartridges
  • EK Success 'Arch Scallop' Border Punch
  • Pinking shears, scissors, ruler, craft knife and rotary cutter
  • EK Success 'medium' corner rounding punch

Cricut Cuts:
  • Card base - Walk In My Garden cartridge, 'card2' set at 5"
  • Yellow gingham - Walk In My Garden cartridge, 'card1' set at 5"
  • Medallion - Part 1, Yellow, 'Ctrus1-s' set at 2 1/2"; Part 2, Green, 'Citrus1' set at 2 1/2"

Just a simple thank you, clean, simple, sweet, and to the point.  That's all this card ever wanted to be, and who am I to argue!  Thanks for stopping by today, and I hope to see you again soon!  Blessings, Becky

Card Patterns Sketch # 125

Do you know how some times, although you start out with a great plan (say a sketch for instance) for a card project,  but that project takes on a life of it's own and before you know it, it barely resembles the plan/sketch??? That's what happened with this project today!  If you look really hard you can see the sketch there, but I'm afraid it's not an exact representation.

And I hope that's okay with the folks over at Card Patterns, cause that's just how it rolls today!  But I love the card!  Here is their sketch #125 . . .

And here is my card based (loosely) on their sketch . . .

Supply List:
  • Base (kraft) card stock - The Paper Company (JoAnn)

  • Pink card stock - DCWV

  • Pink Ribbon - my stash

Little Red Wagon Challenge #90 - Musical Notes

This was Rosanne's week to choose the challenge for us over at Little Red Wagon, and she wants us to make a card that features musical notes!  And, well, I hope my card is acceptable but, while it has musical notes on it, they took the back seat to color, color, COLOR!!!  I am in love with the citrus-y color combination I used on this card, and I hope you enjoy it too!  Here is my card . . .

Supply List:

  • Card stock - DCWV
  • Patterned paper - My Minds Eye
  • Gems - Prima
  • Sentiment - SRM Stickers
  • Stickles 'Diamond'
  • Ribbon - Grosgrain, purchased at a yard sale, no identifying marks!

Tools Used:
  • Cricut Expression and Walk In My Garden (WIMG), Elegant Edges (EE) and Songbird (SB) cartridges
  • Fiskars 'Apron Lace' Border Punch
  • Scissors, craft knife, rotary cutter and ruler

Cricut Cuts:
  • For card base (card stock):  WIMG cartridge, 'card2' set at 5"
  • For patterned paper base:  WIMG cartridge, 'card1' set at 5" (Note:  The  design in the bottom of the patterned paper was already cut from the paper from a previous project.  I arranged the paper so the Cricut would cut the square in that spot, and it worked . . . I think it's really cute!
  • For 'sing' cut from patterned paper with musical notes:  SB cartridge 'sing' using Bird feature set at 1/2 inch
  • For frames for sentiment:  EE cartridge, 'Swirl1-s' using oblong feature set at 1 1/2" (pink) and 1 3/4" (patterned)

And that is my card!  As I said before, I love the citrusy colors of orange, lemon, lime, raspberry pink and strawberry pink! Although the musical notes may not be the 'feature' of the card, they are there and have a purpose.  Thanks for coming by, and come back soon, because I have one more card to share today for another challenge.  Blessings, Becky

Our Creative Corner 'All the B's' Challenge!

Don't you love it when a card just comes together with little worry and stress?  That's how this card was, and I'm not sure whether it was because I had been camping and away from my craft room for a few days, or if it was because I loved the 'recipe' they gave us for this challenge.  But whatever it was, I really love the finished project!

The card I'm referring to is the one I made for the latest challenge over at Our Creative Corner.  The challenge was to use "all the B's", as in black, bows, bling, and buttons!  Here is the card I made for this challenge . . .

The bling is the swirl of pearls, the button is the cameo at the center of the black fabric flower, and the bow is a lovely golden resin bow.

Supply List:

  • Base of card - kraft card stock - The Paper Company (JoAnn)
  • Cream card stock (embossed) - DCWV
  • Patterned paper - 7 Gypsies
  • Image - Flickr
  • Sentiment - SRM Stickers
  • Cameo button and black fabric - stash
  • Gems - Prima
  • Gold resin bow - Anna Griffith

Tools Used:
  • Cuttlebug and 'Musical Swirls' embossing folder
  • Computer and ink jet printer
  • Scissors, craft knife, ruler, rotary cutter

Tips and Tricks:
  • To make the flower, tear a strip of fabric about 1 to 2 inches wide.  Cut a circle of cardboard or card stock about the size you want your finished flower to be. Glue one end to center of circle.  Start twisting fabric and turning to form a circle, gluing as you go.  When you get it as large as you want, cut off excess fabric, turn end of fabric under flower and glue to keep it from coming apart.  Glue button, beads, etc. to center.

Thanks for coming by today, and be sure to come back soon . . . I have a couple more cards for challenges that I will be sharing later!   Blessings, Becky

Cardabilities Sketch #35 - All You Need Is Love!

Hi Folks!  The sketch over at Cardabilities this week is just beautiful, and I had some new things I'd been saving for just such a card as the one they have asked us to make!  Here is the sketch . . .

And here is my card based on the sketch . . .

Just a note . . . I am very excited about that sentiment sticker (#55003 Love / SRM Stickers) because it is the very newest release, just being released this week at CHA!  I won a collection of all of the new releases from SRM on Facebook last week, and I got a big envelope full of SRM goodies yesterday!

Supply List:
  • Card stock - DCWV
  • Patterned papers - Prima 'Madeline' collection
  • Flowers and gems - Prima
  • Sentiment - SRM Press # 55003 Love
  • Gold resin heart - Anna Griffin
  • Brown ink - Stampabilities
  • Glitter glue - Stickles 'platinum'

Tools:
  • Cricut Expression and Walk In My Garden and Elegant Edges cartridges
  • Scissors, ruler, craft knife, rotary cutter
  • EK Success 'Arch Scallop' edger punch

Cricut Cuts:
  • Card base cut using Walk In My Garden (WIMG) cartridge, 'card2' set at 5"
  • Patterned paper cut using WIMG cartridge, 'card1' set at 5"
  • Cream border cut using Elegant Edges (EE) cartridge 'Swirl1-s' using border feature set at 1"
  • Scalloped circlecut using EE cartridge 'Ctrus1-s' set at 2 3/4" - this fit the sentiment sticker perfectly

Tips:
  • Very lightly ink the edges of the flower petals with brown ink, then edge VERY lightly with platinum stickles
  • Also added platinum stickles to edge of scalloped circle and the high points on the gold heart
  • Lift up one edge of the sentiment sticker with a craft knife and lift carefully, centering on card before applying

And there you have it!  I think this may be one of my top 10 favorite cards I've ever made - I just love it, and I hope you do too!  Thanks for visiting, and come back soon for more paper projects.  Blessings, Becky

Tag Tuesday - Butterflies!

Just a quick post to share the tag I made for Rebecca's challenge over at Tag Tuesday/Blog Challenge Garden.  I did something different this week, and stepped outside my comfort zone!  The design for my tag was found on a sheet of pre-printed watercolor paintable outlines from Donna Dewberry - a yard sale find!  Here is my tag . . .

I used watercolor pencils (by eeBoo) to color in the frame, flower and leaves, then used a wet paint brush to soften and spread the color.  I added a butterfly from Jenni Bowlin, but I used a couple of straight pins with pink heads that I dipped in glue, then glitter for the antennae, 'platinum' Stickles for the flower center, and ribbon from my stash - I think it's from Hobby Lobby.  I hand wrote the sentiment with a purple gel pen, but it doesn't match very well, I'm afraid.  This is far from my usual kind of tag, but I think it is pretty anyway!

Thanks for visiting, blessings, Becky

Card Patterns # 124 and Sugar Creek Hollow 'Wing Things' Challenges

Hi there!  I have actually made a few projects lately, but things have been kind of busy, so it's taking me longer than usual to get them posted here for you to see!  This time I have made a card for two challenges:

  • Sugar Creek Hollow's challenge is to use the theme 'Wing Things', fitting into the shabby, vintage or primative styles, and
  • Card Patterns sketch # 124 shown here . . .

For my card, I turned the sketch to the right 1/4 turn.  Here is my card based on the two challenges . . .

Before I share my supply list, I want to tell you about a few bargains I used in making this card!  First up, the white brads (under the pink pearls), the blue felt and pink ribbon were purchased from Anna Griffin a few weeks ago when she had her warehouse sale.  Almost everything I bought (including the set of 10 fancy brads, and the ribbon cards) were only $1 each!  Also, the patterned papers I used are from a Donna Dewberry 'paintable paper' kit that I purchased at a yard sale.  Apparently the lady had purchased five (yes, I said 5) of the kits, and had used some elements, but had the better part of 4 of the kits, and all of three of the kits in a box.  There was no price on the box, and when I asked she only wanted $1 for everything!  I love me some scrapbooking bargains!!!

Supply List:

  • Card stock - Bazzil Basics
  • Patterned paper - Plaid ~ FolkArt One Stroke 'Paintable Papers'
  • Flower and pearls - Prima
  • White brads (see note), felt border and ribbon - Anna Griffin
  • Sentiment - SRM Stickers
  • Image - Flickr

Tools:

  • Cricut Expression and Elegant Edges cartridge
  • Computer and Ink Jet printer
  • Scissors, craft knife, ruler and rotary cutter
  • Needle nose pliers

Cricut Cuts:
  • For image - Elegant Edges cartridge 'Flrsh1-s' using oblong feature set at 4".  Centered cut made using 'Center Point' feature.
  • For matting behind image - Elegant Edges cartridge 'Flrsh1-s' using oblong feature set at 4 1/4".

Tips and Hints:
  • For the three circles at the bottom of the card, I used three Anna Griffin brads that were white, floral shapes.  They did not show up the way I wanted them to, so I coated them with white glue and dipped them into some white glitter and allowed them to dry before gluing on the pink pearls.  I removed the brads from the back with some needle nose pliers and glued them to the card.  The glitter I used was a combination of several different glitters that I had combined a while back because I only had a tiny bit of each, so I can't tell you what brand it is, but I love that it almost perfectly matched the glitter on the Prima flower!

And that is my card for two challenges!   I think it will make a lovely card for someone who just found out they are expecting a baby or, since there are 3 eggs, maybe even triplets!  I have several other cards I need to get posted, so please comeback soon.  Blessings, Becky!!!
